Buying Sleep
Yes, i bought an hour of sleep this morning for 50cents. You see, a library book was due at 11Am but when i got up at 10 i decided there and then to grab another hour of sleep considering how tired i was feeling as i slept at 5am the nite before.... and return the book late (the cost of returning a Reserve Room Book from NTU's Library 2 is 50cents/hour part there of). And i was thinking... hmm 50cents, okay i can afford that, in fact its a GOOD deal for 60mins of extra rest...
HOW Much would you pay for an extra hour of sleep? A dollar? five dollars? 2 cents?
Rushing to WAR
We'll be off to war in less than 2 weeks, dats what i like to liken the exams to. Every half a year is a Campaign to slay the Beasts in the exam halls one by one. And when the "metal meets the meat" we would be trained and ready. Our bunkers and trenches would have been dug, fortified and covered by fire. AND when this happens:
we'd know what to do.. heheh... but somehow, i feel that this time round we are sorely lacking in time and preparation.
However, I sincerely hope that when All Hell breaks lose, we'll all be fine and that all my friends and I will make it through the fight. It's painful to see someone get left behind or to get left behind. Times were never harder before, but time will pass.
Hang in there folks, its time to Rock and Roll

3:50 Am, Lets See what's in the news...
TV presenter Cheryl Fox cleared of suspected drug taking
"Channel NewsAsia presenter Cheryl Fox has been cleared of suspected drug consumption. The Central Narcotics Bureau confirmed that a second urine test found no traces of drugs. Ms Fox was released on personal bond on October 8 after an initial urine test came out negative."
Not a very flattering picture. Cheryl Fox, my favourite news presenter... she recently got called in for drug tests but was cleared. But i bet people would look at her differently from now on.. or at least for a while. It makes u wonder if Looks really are deceiving. But after this she's still my fav ;p
Raffles Institution to get new principal
"Raffles Institution will soon get its 24th headmaster since it was founded in 1823. On December 15, Mr Bob Koh Chin Nguang will replace Mr Wong Siew Hoong, who will be taking up a senior appointment in the Ministry of Education Headquaters. Mr Wong has been RI's headmaster for the last six years"
Why do I care? Why dosen't Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School or Boon Lay Secondary School get a mention when pricipals pass the torch? i wonder what is Mrs Molly Tan doing now? (Mrs Molly Tan was my school principal)... i wish mr Bob goodluck, hope u do well enough to maintain the standard to get a mention when u leave the school.
Second trainer denies dunking commando trainees
"The second commando officer charged with causing the death of 2nd Sergeant Hu En Huai has taken the stand. Lieutenant Divanandhari claims he does not remember dunking Sergeant Hu and was not involved in dunking Captain Ho Wan Huo, who nearly drowned. This is exactly the same testimony given by the first commando trainer - Lieutenant Ng Chin Fong."
How convenient it is when no body recalls... i wonder how the next accused trainer will testify. Looks like they need the help of Grissom and friends from CSI.. reopen the crime scene and interview all the mosquitoes and wildboars present at that time. Or maybe put all of them on a Polygraph and start the interview by asking silly questions like.. 'who's ur mama' or 'what is 5x6+2x8+13-(4e^6)/c where c is the speed of light'... Don't worry sir I just wanna see your mind's reaction to thinking, as lies are calculated....
just like you see in the movies...

Happy Birthday Mr Chan and
The View from my room..
Yesterday 14 oct was my 24th birthday. ITs a time when everyone is busy, and its been like this for the past i dont know how many frickin years because the exams have always gotten in the way, Thats what happens to babies born in the October November months...thus it has most of the time been sort of a non-event, but i still had a lot of well wishes and SMSes pouring in.. and for that i am thankful. Special mention to my sis and Claire who presented me with a surprise "cake" and took my mind away from the pain in my mouth due to the Ulcers after my dental op last week ;p
Aside from that i think that Librans rock, as i've been recently reminded that we are pple of Grace and Charm (at least that's something i would like to believe). John Lennon was a Libran and Cliff Richard and Natelie Maines of the Dixie Chicks both share the same bday as me.....
I would now like to leave u with some pictures that i have taken from the corridor of my hostel room @ NTU Hall 10. Its a helluva climb to my room, six stories up (excluding the mini hill that it stands on) and no less than a hundred steps, but the view is great here
A storm over the Bukit Timah area
Morning sun
The way to the bathroom
Red roofs
Clouds overhead......

WTF.. why am i explaining the picture? it must be the 4am air... and the tiredness.... enjoy...

Goodbye Superman
Chirstopher Reeve has died of heart failure at the age of 52. I was quite shocked by the news when i found out about it on yahoo.com today.
Just on Saturday, John Kerry spoke of "Chris Reeve" who was exercising hard in the hope that he would be able to walk again. Who would have known that he would leave the very next day.
The injuries that Christopher Reeve sustained showed us all that no one is invincible, not even Superman. But the way he fought back is nothing short of superhuman. For this reason, he has been an inspiration and a symbol of hope and courage for many people facing difficulties in thier lives.
Goodbye superman, Rest in peace...

Spitting blood...
IT has been about five hours since my wisdom tooth extraction, and its still bleeding.
What started out three weeks ago as sensitivity to cold drinks had gotten worse n worse. I told the dentist that the pain had started to radiate to the front, this he said wasnt a good thing at all. So he took an X-ray before the prodecure and the news broke, the molar rite in front of the wisdom tooth was Decaying...
Option 1: extract both at one go
implications -> be Bo-gay right at the back for the rest of my life. (One less tooth to chew with).
Option 2: extract only the wisdom tooth and have a Root canal job for the affected molar.
implications -> this would mean more trips to the dentist, more pain, No relief from the present pain even if i take out the wisdom tooth. No time for this cos my exams are in three weeks and i Need FULL CONCENTRATION (which i why i am not holding this off till after exams). No ice-cream. But i would get to keep the tooth.
I was going to have to make an Immediate decision. At this point, I already had my mouth jabbed and was feeling paralysed on the right side of my face. "Let's go, take both out" (Okay i didnt consider Long term, i.e. for the rest of my life). But given the proximity of the coming exams and my reluctance to take more pain.... i decided to take both out
It went more smoothly then i expected and i didnt feel a thing when he used the "pliers" to pull my teeth out.. then stitch stitch stitch... and it was all over.
The numbess has gone, and i can feel my lips again but the pain has not set in, Just some discomfort. I don't know, maybe its the effect of the oral pain killers..these little yellow tablets that i might have to rely on for the next couple of days...... .. .. ...

Stumbled upon this list of Scientific/Physics laws, i think i would call it the FUBAR set of laws that govern our everyday life, this is all so true... LEARN!
Lorenz's Law of Mechanical Repair:
After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to
itch.
Anthony's Law of the Workshop:
Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.
Kovac's Conundrum:
When you dial a wrong number, you never get an engaged one.
Cannon's Karmic Law:
If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat
tire, the next morning you will have a flat tire.
O'brien's Variation Law:
If you change queues, the one you have left will start to move
faster than the one you are in now.
WILLOUGHBY'S LAW
When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.
ZADRA'S LAW OF BIOMECHANICS
The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.
BREDA'S RULE
At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle
arrive last.
OWEN'S LAW
As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask
you to do something which will last until the coffeee is cold.
HOWDEN'S LAW
You remember you have to mail a letter only when you're near the
mailbox.

a day in the life of me... 4weeks before the exams....
The day starts with, water and a sugar coated cream cracker..... no time to make a hot cup of milo, so if my lesson is at 1030 i get up at 930.....i grab a charsiew bao from the canteen if i can...
lessons until the end of the day... with breaks in between of course,
still i try not to nod off into sleep... -end of lessons: 1830 *tired
dinner and then lame project meeting at 1900.. this lasts till 2100..
the day's not over yet.. time to hit the books... i sit at the canteen table trying to absorb but i dont get anywhere, Close my EYES for 20minutes.. its 2120. The canteen vendors have started to extend thier opening hours to serve those hard at work... If i was an angel like in movie, City of Angels (they could Hear the thoughts of people).. i think i would be able to hear a jumble of voices.. a constant buzz of minds thinking aloud.... above the slience of the cool canteen air.
so i grab a 50cent LARGE cup of coffee... and being recharged after my mini-nap i blaze into the night... stopping to look at my handphone clock, ITs only midnite.. perhaps i can go on a for another 2 hours...
0200... hmmm pushing it.... think i gotta stop here. i have classes tomorrow... 20-25mins walk back to hall... eat an apple...... take a shower, brush my teeth
turn on the pc to see which late bird is still online.. but most pple are snoozing by now... surf the net for another hour... its 0400!!! ah late... time to get ready for the same routine tomorrow.. in the words of my navy diver trained friend "same shit different day"
gdnite world...
