The Mango snatchers
Last month, I asked "what is this uncle doing"?
and

The geriatric pole vault
One evening when i looked out the kitchen window, I saw a group of uncles prodding the tree, what a curious sight. I thought someone's underpants or bra had fallen from their flat and got caught in the trees. But i soon found out that they were robbing the tree of it's fruits!!! The tree was full of Green mangoes. And so I ran to the room to grab my camera...
prod prod
The spirit of teamwork
The fruits are "harvested" by collecting them in a cut open soft drink bottle and lowered to the ground, how ingenious
Guarding the loot. I did a count from where I was standing and I think they ended with about 15 or more mangoes by the end of the day
The mango snatching team hard at work
It all ended before the sun set, they gathered at the table for a smoke, divided the stash and parted ways. Job done.
Too bad they don't have durian tress growing down stairs...

wah.. where they get such a longgg pole... must be neck-breaking effort for one person to pluck those mangoes. no wonder they need a back up team.. haha.. ^_^
luv green sour mangoes!! they taste great with the black soya sauce & chili ;p whenever, i went to johor, sure must buy one packet!!!
hey, grab 1 mango next time and try! slurp..
I think what they're doing might be illegal if the tree is grown by the government.
I've tried those before... Had to jump up and down to get them too. They taste pretty disgusting actually. Threw them away after one bite.
I was in the school's gardening team before and I remembered that these green mangoes are mostly sour and full of fibre that is difficult to extract by the body. Guess it's just not worth the effort when the supermarkets are selling cheap mangoes that are large and sweet.
You might be surprised how tasty they could be. There was a mango tree outside my old house and it rained mangos during the season. Well sweet is not exactly how they were but unique nonetheless.
And yah it could be illegal but I suppose not much harm being done, the police will just close an eye.
It's nice to see them working as a team. Look how happy and excited they are!
Talk about team work huh? BTW, your photos are very color vibrant.
nice nice!
hey - wondering if you interested to go caroling this year again. leave me a msg.
no harm wat? mangoes will rot anyway if no one pluck them.
i think police have better things to do than chase uncles away from mango trees :-P
siew yin: they connected a few bamboo poles, its a syndicate i tell u.. hahah it sounds good, but i don;t think i've tried green ones.. to me, mangoes are supposed to be orangey with a bit of green..
sesame: in that case its most probably illegal because it's in between two HDB blocks.. but if they dont go and sell the fruits then i dont think anyone will go after them
intrepid: hahahha rotten.. maybe u need the skill and experience the uncles have to select the GOOD ones..
beng: GARDENING TEAM! i remember one incident in my childhood, we went to pick some guavas from the road side but they turned out inedible.. tink got worms or something... can't remember
yk: hmm we're pretty divided here.. so far some say it's nice... some say it's terrible
tscd: it is nice, true Singapore spirit.. working together..
paddy tan: why, thank u... :) but the photos are a little shaky cos of the high usage of zoom
lisette: cool.. i'll let u know later :) i actually joined a choir last year called 'SoundsEasy'
alvin: it would be a sight to see the police rounding up these ah-pehs in hand cuffs.. haha
